Answer
Is crowdfunding safe?
Short answer
Your money is safe from the platform and from the founder taking it early. It is not safe from the project failing, and no platform can make it so. Those are two different risks and they get conflated constantly.
The first risk is custody: could the money disappear between you sending it and the project starting? On CoFunders that risk is addressed structurally rather than by trust. Pledges sit in an on-chain escrow with a public address and a public balance, released to the founder only when the campaign reaches its goal, and returned to backers if it does not. We cannot spend it, the founder cannot spend it early, and you can verify both of those claims yourself instead of believing them.
The second risk is execution, and it is entirely real. A founder can reach their goal, receive the money in good faith, and then fail. Suppliers fall through, costs double, people get ill, and a thing that was going to exist does not. No escrow protects against that, on any platform, and a site that implies otherwise is selling you a feeling.
The third risk is you, which is not a criticism: an account with money in it is a target. The specific danger with crypto rails is that transfers are final, so a mistake or a scam has no undo. Nobody at CoFunders will ever ask for your recovery phrase, and any message that does is an attack regardless of what it looks like.
So: safe in a narrow, checkable, mechanical sense, and risky in the ordinary sense that funding new things is risky. Back what you can afford to part with.
