What CoFunders costs

Backing costs 1.5% of each pledge plus a small flat fee, both taken from the pledge. Opening a campaign costs a single fee. Looking around is free, and there's no platform fee to withdraw.

Every pledge carries two fees: a percentage set by the plan of the account making the pledge, and a flat $0.99 whatever the size. The free plan's fee is 1.5%, and it's the only plan on sale today.

What everyone pays today, on the free plan

WhatCostHow it works
Backing a project1.5% + $0.99The percentage fee on a pledge follows the plan of the account making it. It's taken when the pledge is made, so it isn't returned if the campaign misses its goal. Paid plans aren't on sale today, so the published fee is the free plan's fee. Both come out of the pledge, so a $100 pledge puts $97.50 into the campaign, and only that net amount counts toward the goal.
Opening a campaign$5Paid once by the creator, on chain, when the campaign is created. It's the one fee a creator's own plan lowers.
Adding money by card0.25% + $0.99You add money by card on our payment partner's own page, with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. It lands first in a deposit wallet for your account, and we move it to your own wallet within minutes, minus our fee of 0.25% plus a flat $0.99, and the network fee. The partner shows its own fee on its page.
Sending stablecoin inFreeA transfer straight to your own wallet never passes through anything we control.
WithdrawingNo platform feeThe network fee comes out of your balance, and you see it before you confirm. Any holding cost already accrued is taken from what's left in your balance just after, once it comes to $1 or more.
Holding cost0.01% a weekAbout 0.52% a year, so $100 left untouched for a year accrues $0.52. Only on idle money in your balance, never on a pledge, and nothing at or under $10.
Minimum pledge$10Enforced by the contract, not by a policy we could change. Below it, the flat fee would take too big a share of the pledge.

The holding cost

0.01% a week on money sitting idle, which is 0.52% a year. Not on what you've backed, not on a balance of $10 or less, and taken automatically once it comes to $1 or more, just after a movement you were already making, never billed separately.

What it is

Money sitting idle in your account accrues it: 0.52% of a balance left untouched for a whole year. It's the smallest thing we charge and the easiest to avoid, because it only applies to money doing nothing.

What it's never charged on

Anything you've backed: a pledge sits in a campaign's escrow, not in your account. Money you withdraw. And balances of $10 or less, so a few coins left over after a pledge accrue nothing.

How it's settled

There's no bill to pay. Once what accrues comes to $1 or more, it's taken from your balance automatically, just after your next pledge, transfer or withdrawal, and never out of the amount you send. Until then, or if you never move any money, it just keeps accruing.

Why it exists

Every account here is a real wallet on a public network that we keep running for you, whether or not you use it. The holding cost is what a dormant account costs, charged only on the dormant money, at a rate low enough that an active backer never notices. It replaces the two options we turned down: a monthly account fee and a percentage taken on the way out.

Your balance comes out whenever you want

Nothing is locked in. There's no platform fee to withdraw and no waiting list. Money in your CoFunders balance is yours and leaves when you say. Any holding cost already accrued is taken from what's left in your balance just after, once it comes to $1 or more.

You can send your stablecoin to any address you choose. The network fee comes out of your balance, and you see it before you confirm. Selling it for your local currency, to a card or a bank account, happens on a licensed provider's own screen, which verifies you and sets its own fee. The app offers that only where it's available.

A pledge is no longer part of your balance. The app doesn't let you take a pledge back before the deadline. The only pledge that can't come back at all is one to a campaign that reached its goal: by then it's with the creator, making what you backed.

Questions about the price

How much does CoFunders charge?

1.5% of each pledge plus a flat $0.99, both taken when the pledge is made, and $5 to open a campaign. Browsing is free, there's no platform fee to withdraw, and an idle balance accrues 0.01% a week. The percentage fee on a pledge follows the plan of the account making it. It's taken when the pledge is made, so it isn't returned if the campaign misses its goal. Paid plans aren't on sale today, so the published fee is the free plan's fee.

Are the fees returned if a campaign misses its goal?

No. The percentage fee on a pledge follows the plan of the account making it. It's taken when the pledge is made, so it isn't returned if the campaign misses its goal. Paid plans aren't on sale today, so the published fee is the free plan's fee. If the goal isn't met by the deadline, you take your pledge back from escrow with one tap, and nobody has to approve it. What comes back is the amount held for you: your pledge minus the fees taken when you backed (the platform fee, the flat fee, any tip and any share reward the campaign pays).

Plans

Not on sale

You can't buy any of the four plans below today. We're reworking them, and until then the fee quoted across this site is the free plan's. The fees shown are planned and can change before launch.

MaxThe lowest pledge fee the program allows, and the cheapest campaign to open.$39.99/monthor $399.90 a year, two months free0.5%$0.50$98.50

The last column is about a backer, not you, because the percentage a pledge carries is set by the account that makes it. A creator's own plan changes only the fee to open a campaign. Each figure includes the flat fee.
