Minimal KYC

Raise money online without the paperwork

All you need to start a campaign is an email. No company, no bank account, no documents to upload, no approval queue. CoFunders asks for no ID, and the money lands in a wallet whose key is yours.

Key facts

  • To start: an email or a Google account. Nothing else.
  • No company, no bank account, no ID to upload, no approval queue.
  • Your account's wallet is yours. You can export its key and move USDC in and out with any Solana wallet.
  • ID checks happen only if you choose to pay by card or sell for your local currency in the app, on a licensed partner's screen.
  • Pledges wait in escrow until the deadline. If the goal is missed, backers take their pledge back.

What do you need to start a campaign?

An email or a Google account. You sign up, write the campaign and publish it. There's no company to register, no bank account to link, no document to upload and nobody who has to approve it first.

A campaign needs a story, a goal, a deadline and the rewards you offer. Its location is optional. Writing and previewing it costs nothing, and the fee to publish is charged when it goes live.

What does minimal KYC mean here?

CoFunders asks for no ID to create a campaign, to back one or to receive what you raise. Identity checks happen only on two paths inside the app, and both are run by licensed partners on their own screens: paying by card, and selling for your local currency. Both are optional.

You can skip both. Send USDC on Solana to your account from any wallet or exchange, and send it out to any address you choose. The exchange you buy USDC on follows its own rules. Deposit with 0% card fees shows that route step by step.

You can send your stablecoin to any address you choose. The network fee comes out of your balance, and you see it before you confirm. Selling it for your local currency, to a card or a bank account, happens on a licensed provider's own screen, which verifies you and sets its own fee. The app offers that only where it's available.

Who holds the money?

You do, in your account's wallet. The app uses it to sign what you tap: a pledge, a claim, a refund. You can export its key from your profile at any time and use the same address in any Solana wallet, without the app.

While a campaign runs, each pledge waits in an escrow the program controls.

Your pledge sits in an escrow account the program controls, not in a CoFunders account. Under the program's rules, only the creator can claim a campaign's funds once it reaches its goal, and only you can take your pledge back if it misses. The program can still be upgraded, and today one key we hold can upgrade it (see /security).

When the goal is reached, you claim the funds to your own wallet. From there they're yours to keep, to spend or to send anywhere.

What stays private?

Your email is never shown. People see the name and the username you choose, your campaigns and your comments. A campaign's location is up to you.

It isn't anonymous, though. Every transfer on Solana is public, so anyone who links your wallet address to you can see what it sent and received. Can you crowdfund anonymously? goes through what is private and what is not.

How fast can you raise money?

As fast as you can write the campaign and share it. Publishing takes minutes, and backers can pledge the moment it's live.

  1. Sign up in the app with email or Google.
  2. Write the story, set a goal and a deadline, and add your rewards.
  3. Publish it. Opening a campaign costs $5 on the free plan.
  4. Share the link with the people who already know you.
  5. If the goal is reached, claim the funds to your wallet. Nobody else can.

What does it cost?

Opening a campaign costs $5 on the free plan. Each pledge pays 1.5% plus a flat $0.99, taken from the pledge.

The percentage fee on a pledge follows the plan of the account making it. It's taken when the pledge is made, so it isn't returned if the campaign misses its goal. Paid plans aren't on sale today, so the published fee is the free plan's fee.

A balance left in your account pays a holding cost of 0.01% a week. Every figure is on pricing.

What if the goal is missed?

Each backer takes their pledge back. Pledges wait in escrow until the deadline, and a campaign that misses its goal pays out nothing to its creator.

If the goal isn't met by the deadline, you take your pledge back from escrow with one tap, and nobody has to approve it. What comes back is the amount held for you: your pledge minus the fees taken when you backed (the platform fee, the flat fee, any tip and any share reward the campaign pays).

Are there any rules?

Yes. Less paperwork doesn't mean anything goes: you must be 18 or over, and nobody may use CoFunders for fraud, money laundering or anything else unlawful. Where needed, an account is suspended or closed and reported. The Terms of Service set out every rule.

Nobody approves a campaign first, so nobody vets it either. Backers decide whom to trust, and safety and the rules shows what to check.
