Can you crowdfund anonymously on CoFunders?
Not fully anonymously, but with minimal KYC: no ID to start, back or receive, and your email is never shown. Card top ups and cash out check ID.
Short answer
Not fully anonymously, but with minimal KYC. CoFunders asks for no ID to start a campaign, back one or receive what you raise, and your email is never shown: people see the name and username you choose. ID is checked only if you pay by card or sell for your local currency inside the app, by a licensed partner. Every transfer on Solana is public.
Key facts
- Sign up with email or Google. No ID, no documents.
- Others see the name and username you choose, never your email.
- A campaign's location is optional.
- Paying by card and selling for your local currency in the app go through partners who check your ID. You can skip both with your own wallet.
- Payments on Solana are public: anyone who links your address to you can see its history.
What does CoFunders know about you?
Your email, or the Google account you signed in with, and your account's wallet address. We never ask for an ID, a passport or proof of address, and we never show your email to anyone. The privacy policy lists everything we keep and for how long.
What do other people see?
The name and the username you choose, the month you joined, your campaigns and your comments. Your email is never on your profile. A campaign shows its story, goal and rewards, and its location only if you add one.
You don't have to use your real name. Backers tend to trust a campaign more when they know who is behind it, so think about how much you show.
When is your ID checked?
Only on two paths inside the app, both optional, both run by licensed partners on their own screens: paying by card, and selling your balance for your local currency. The checks happen on the partner's page, not ours.
You add money by card on our payment partner's own page, with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. It lands first in a deposit wallet for your account, and we move it to your own wallet within minutes, minus our fee of 0.25% plus a flat $0.99, and the network fee. The partner shows its own fee on its page.
You can send your stablecoin to any address you choose. The network fee comes out of your balance, and you see it before you confirm. Selling it for your local currency, to a card or a bank account, happens on a licensed provider's own screen, which verifies you and sets its own fee. The app offers that only where it's available.
Can you skip those checks with your own wallet?
Yes. Your account's wallet is yours: you can export its private key from your profile at any time and use the same address in any Solana wallet, without the app. The app only uses that wallet to sign what you tap: a pledge, a claim, a refund.
So you can send USDC on Solana in from any wallet or exchange, and send it out to any address you choose, without our card or cash out partners. The exchange you use has its own rules. Deposit with 0% card fees and sending USDC to another wallet show both directions.
Is a payment on the blockchain anonymous?
No. It's pseudonymous. Every transfer on Solana is public, with its amount, its time and both addresses. Your name isn't on it, but anyone who links your address to you, from a payment you sent them or a post where you shared it, can read everything that address ever did.
What rules still apply?
The same ones for everybody. You must be 18 or over, and nobody may use CoFunders for fraud, money laundering or anything else unlawful. Where needed, an account is suspended or closed and reported. The Terms of Service set out every rule, and raising money without the paperwork shows how to start.
